Y-Chromosome Studies

  • A common variation in the sequence of DNA among individuals of a species or race.Polymorphisms of Native American populations show a gradient of A common variation in the sequence of DNA among individuals of a species or race.polymorphisms extending from North to South America

  • Such a gradient is expected from an Asian migration through the Bering Strait

  • Book of Mormon suggests that a genetic gradient should extend in the opposite direction

Other studies have examined the pattern of migration in the Americas revealed through Y chromosomal A common variation in the sequence of DNA among individuals of a species or race.polymorphisms found in different Native American populations. These studies have found a North to South gradient of increasing genetic drift in the Americas.1 This is contrary to the Book of Mormon claim that the founding populations originated in either Central America or Chile. If such claims were true, the gradient would run in the opposite direction.
