Husband Addicted to Porn? How to Cut His Access
Introduction
A large percentage of men, including Christians, are addicted to pornography. Your husband may have tried to quit, but keeps going back. If you install content-blocking applications, like Net Nanny, you must install it on all computers. However, if he is smart, he can figure out how to disable it or get a new computer. Severe addiction can ruin your relationship with him, as he ignores you are prefers his online fantasies. We are going to use the free DNS management services FamilyShield by OpenDNS to block his access to the vast majority of pornography sites available on the web.
FamilyShield - Easy
In June, 2010 OpenDNS initiated FamilyShield, an all-in-one easy way to filter your Internet, blocking content based upon:
- Adult websites that are unsuitable for addicted husbands
- Proxy and anonymizer sites commonly used by savvy husbands to bypass traditional Web filters
- Phishing sites that aim to trick you into handing over personal or financial information
- Some virus-spreading malware websites
Simply by changing the DNS servers in your router, you can block objectionable material automatically. Generally, you can get to your router through the following link:
Going to this IP address will bring up the control panel for your router. Your control panel may or may not have a password to gain access. Check your router's manual for the default password and change it once you login. You can usually find the manual online. Just type the router's model number with the word "manual" in a Google search. When in doubt, try the username as "admin" and the password as "password" or blank. Once you login, CHANGE THE ROUTER PASSWORD! You can get specific instructions for your router at the OpenDNS website:

Once logged in, you will want to look for DNS settings to modify. Usually, these settings will be found under the "advanced settings" category. Look for something that says, "DHCP Settings" or "DNS Settings." If your DNS setting is set for "dynamic" change it to "static" and enter the IP addresses for the OpenDNS DNS FamilyShield servers:
- 208.67.222.123
- 208.67.220.123
Save your settings and restart your router. You're done! Get started now:
Your sexual responsibility
Now that you have blocked your husband's major sexual outlet, you need to provide him something better - YOU! The average male younger than 80 years old "needs" sex every day. This concept seems to escape most wives, whose sexual desire is much less. If you don't believe me, ask him directly, "Do you want to have sex every day?" Here is what the Bible says about the topic:
Let the husband fulfill his duty to his wife, and likewise also the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does; and likewise also the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. Stop depriving one another, except by agreement for a time that you may devote yourselves to prayer, and come together again lest Satan tempt you because of your lack of self-control. (1 Corinthians 7:3-5)
Conclusion
OpenDNS provides free content filtering services for individuals and families, allowing you to block pornography your Internet content. By changing a couple settings on your router, you can control what Internet material comes into your home for free. Although this technique does not block all inappropriate content, it is much better than allowing your husband unhindered access to material that is wrecking your relationship.
