The Neandertal skull is quite different from a modern human skull. The brain case is squashed in the Neandertal. The skull also features a receding forehead and receding chin. Neandertals had large eye sockets, a prominent brow ridge, and large front teeth. There was a large retromolar gap between the last molar and the lower jaw, and an occipital bun (bump) at the back of the skull.
