The Problem: SIN

Everyone has turned away, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. (Psalm 53:3)
All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6)
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)

Slide 42 of 49

Even though most of us desire to do good and love other people, we have all failed at times to do what we knew was right in the eyes of God. Sometimes, this is difficult to see, especially if we are not indwelt by the Holy Spirit (i.e., accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior). Before I became a Christian, I thought I was doing quite well morally. I compared myself to others (some even Christian) and saw that I probably exceeded their righteousness. However, breaking even one of the ten commandments (which includes coveting and lying - something everyone has done) makes us worthy of death in the eyes of God. Now that the Holy Spirit lives in me, I realize that I failed (and continue to fail) to live up to the standards of God. As Romans 3:23 states, I continually fall short of the glory of God. I am guilty and have fallen under God's sentence of death.
