Answers for Atheists

A new page examines the belief that all religions lead to God. Many say that God cannot be discernable. However, the characteristics of the universe tell us a lot about the kind of God who designed it. The deistic, uninvolved deity just doesn't make sense in the universe in which we live. Likewise, the idea that all religions teach the same things is invalidated by the unique message of Christianity. Only the Christian religion accounts for the temporary nature of the universe along with the nature of corrupt human beings.

If you were to ask people, most believe that they will be going to heaven when they die. However, this "interview with God" reveals that I would have had some real problems getting into heaven, were it not for God's provision for my sin through Jesus Christ. The interview was inspired by my true life story of conversion, when I met Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount. That sermon convinced me that I was in BIG trouble...

Christian Life Issues (bioethics)

I was part of a bioethics panel hosted at Cal Baptist University Monday, April 19, 2004. After that talk, I was asked to present a talk on the bioethics of stem cell/cloning at our church, Sierra Madre Congregational Church on June 27, 2004. A shortened version was also presented at First Church of the Nazarene of Pasadena ("PazNaz") on July 14. Believe it or not, the state of California may be getting into embryonic stem cell/cloning for research business - but not if I can help it. A ballot initiative (Proposition 71) gathered enough signatures to qualify for the November, 2004 ballot. The proposed State Constitutional Amendment will add another $6 billion to California's already multi-billion dollar deficit. Not only is it fiscally irresponsible, it suffers from political and bureaucratic entanglements. It even has provisions for real estate development for special interest groups. The proponents wrote the measure using technical and vague language so that the voters would be unaware that it calls for destruction of human embryos and human embryo cloning. If you live in the state of California, please make your friends aware of what this initiative will actually do.

Biblical Creation

Nearly all young-earth apologetics organizations present a biblical model that requires the rapid speciation of animals following the Genesis flood. Since their model requires the presence of all ancestors of living and extinct species to be on an ark that cannot possibly contain them, young earth organizations have made up a story stating that all those species evolved from the original kinds immediately after the flood. Of course, there is neither scriptural or scientific support for such an idea. Scientifically, there is no way that the Genesis "kinds" could remain pure for 1,500 years before the flood and then rapidly evolve the form the millions of species alive today and the billions that can be seen as fossils. Biblically, there is no mention of the vast geographic, floral, or faunal changes said to have occurred in this young earth model.

Have you heard that scientists discovered "morphologically intact red blood cells" in the leg bone of a Tyrannosaurus rex? Well, if you did, you shouldn't repeat the claim, because it is quite false. Young earth creationists organizations have sensationalized and distorted the truth around an actual scientific report to fit their dogma - that dinosaurs lived only thousands of years ago. The story reads like a bad mystery, with the major players being unwilling to retract their obviously inaccurate statements. Deceit and deception does not belong in any ministry that names the name of Christ.
